Default 5th Gear Problems!? Wtf

Ok so all of a sudden my fifth gear acts like I'm trying to push it into gear through Mississippi gumbo mud! Doesn't grind and no other gears are acting up.
I've read that the reverse lockout solenoid could be the cause but shouldnt reverse be hard to go into as well if this was the case!?

Car only has 27k miles on it so abuse is not the cause. Anyone else had this problem, or know of anyone that has had problems with this? Thanks

Do you skip gears when you upshift? For example, do you wind out to third then drop it into 5th or 6th directly?

There's your problem..... you've most likely deformed the synchro sleeve/hub on the 5th gear side.....placing it in and out of 5th gear with the car off a bunch of times might help smooth it out for you again.... (it'll remove any of the burrs that have formed on the synchro hub/sleeve) So apparently abuse IS the cause...

there is your answer, its been documented that you shouldnt skip shift an s2k, it leads to a 5th gear lockout.

Yea after I posted I found an old thread of this issue. Never heard of this before and never had problems with my last S but didn't jo around gears that much either. The 477s require lots of shifting around town.. Dang. Wish I read that earlier.

Try what I said, and be sure to change your fluid after doing it.....it should smoothen things out a bit for you. (oh...it helps to have the tranny at operating temps before shifting in and out with the car off)
