About to purchase. Need Input
Hey guys I have just stumbled across an 00 s2k locally and wanted to come here quick before I make a purchase.
The car was owned by an older guy and sold to this guy(mid 20s) 26k miles and stock besides wheels.
Only issue was when driving the right rear tire made a click and he said it was the axle that needs to be retorqued and is a common issue. Is this something worth looking over? The car other wise seemed immaculate and he was asking 16k.
Not sure if this is the right forum but I am on my phone and at work and had to post quick! Thanks guys!

Axle nuts were not torqued enough from the factory, and lead to a clicking sound, and ultimately failed wheel bearings. Torqued to 180ft-lb, but really needs much more. Affects all model years, and is a very common issue.

This is an S2Ki.com documented issue, and was never actually a TSB from Honda.
I would do some searching though to make sure the click you heard matches up with the axle nut problem

If you've found an unmolested s2k with low miles, you've found a gem. If I had to do it all over again that's what I would've done. I've spent the last year taking off all the crap and ghetto rigged stuff I didn't see during the buying process.
Look through the stickies, I'm pretty sure there's one dedicated to things to look over before buying.
Most importantly do a leak down/comp test via a trusted mechanic of your choosing. Oil starvation is a common problem in these cars.
Not sure about the price though.

Keep in mind that '00 models have a number of less desirable quirks not found in '02 and up vehicles. They are more prone to oversteer, have a ECU tune that makes low rpm torque a bit weak, come with a clutch prone to be noisy, were equipped with transmission that often have a 'stacking tolerance' problem that affects shifting, and besides being relatively unfinished inside use a dash covering that can bubble in hot climates.
I have an '00 and spent a lot of time and money fixing some standard 'features', but it is great now.
