Hi all,

I have had my car on stands for the last 5 months tearing it apart and replacing things for a track build. Prior to taking it all a part, I had no engine codes prior. So something happened along the way. I am not getting any other codes. Just the 81 code using the 4-9 pin method for the OBD port and I had the dealer verify it for free. They tried to erase and it came back immediately.

Looking for any advice on things to check for the ABS module. All of the speed sensors are hooked up and cleaned, if they weren't, the code would indicate so. The abs module is connected. Is there another connector I need to look for or a secondary ground? Would a fuse throw this code? The service manual says if the fault still exists after trying to clear it, the module needs to be replaced. I kinda don't want - rather see if there is another cause.

Replace the module, the used OEM ones are dirt cheap. Although I do remember someone harvesting the electronics on the module off a generic replacement and transferring it to theirs and fixing their issue. The used modules are like $50 on ebay.

 

Yeah I know they are cheap. But I want to find the root cause before replacing the entire unit (IE fuses, grounding, wires).

Would a fuse trip it?

 

Fuses, relay, and wires look good. I took apart the brake booster, master cylinder, and ABS. I bought a new ABS module just incase, but I am still curious why the first one died? Has anyone seen these go bad randomly?

 

I replaced the VSA (ABS) module with one from ebay for $130 bucks since my car is a 2006 ap2. I reset the code and it went away, though it is on blocks and I haven't been able to test drive it or bleed the lines yet (lots of air in the lines now). Is there a way to troubleshoot the old unit to see if it is salvageable?
