I am just wondering if I have to replace the whole CV Joint or whether the ring will come off.

The toothed ring can be replaced. Finding one is another story. The ABS components are made by Nissin, so the ring may be common to other vehicles that have Nissin ABS. I think a small # of people on this site my have some wrecks parting out. The OD, ID and tooth count/width must me the same if you go with a ring from another car.

I wouldn't recommend trying to swap the sensor ring off the outer joint. I have tried on Accords and Legends several times to no avail. Usually the ring cracks when pressing it on the joint. If the air gap between the sensor and the ring is off or the ring is damaged ABS engagement can happen. (sounds like your problem) The sensor ring is most definitely an interference fit with the joint. If you heat the hub ring evenly to expand it you may be able to replace it without breaking, that is assuming you have another ring. The only practical repair is to replace the joint.

That is what I was thinking, but I was hoping that I could get around it.

What about filing the dented one flat?

I was not able to check it last night.

If you change the number of teeth on the wheel the ABS control unit will be very confused about wheel speed. It will most likely throw a wheel speed sensor code and not work properly. Missing "Just one" tooth on the ring would make the control unit see the wheel speed increase sharply one per revolution even though it has not. The unit will think the wheel is spinning and apply brake pressure to slow the wheel speed. If the car just started to do this after the bearing change, Most likely cause is the damaged sensor ring. A new axle outer joint is the only practical way to repair.

I think the snesor ring hit the a-arm when I was doing the repair. It does have a ding on one of the teeth. I had no idea that would hurt anything or I would have been more careful. I guess you learn something new everyday.

Thanks for your input.

If the control unit knows how many teeth are supposed to be on the wheel, and then one is missing, only replaced by an empty space The AC current generated by the sensor will not be a smooth wave form. Whatever way the control unit sees the irregular pattern as is going to create the same problem.
