Default Ac compressor burnt out

So I was driving the s2000 with the ac on full blast then i switched the knob to defrost. After that I smelled a horrible burning smell... Pulled over and popped the hood open and sure enough my ac compressor was smoking.... Wtf my 02 has 97 thousand miles and my compressor is ruined.... This is not normal correct???? WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF THIS???? It was raining out too but did not drive through any big puddles beforehand . Any help or info would be great..thanks in advance....btw my ac blows hot air now while ac is on...

the compressor is jammed. You need a new one, either its worn out or need a service and oil. Or the last person did not add oil when filling it

happens more then you think.... its honestly best to go buy a diffrent one they never work the same after theyve been jammed.... In the midwest you see alot of this due to the salt they use on the roads in the winter... it tends to jam and rust just about everything in the engine compartment.

Mine cuts on only after I smack it with a wrench. Any idea what's wrong with mine?

the cutch is probly bad... sometimes the bearings get pitted and are no longer round... just a guess though (on the bearings)

I guess that it would be best to replace the a/c compressor?
