I'm sure gernby will chime in about his. Mine is simply hot water heater insulation purchased from a hardware store. It comes in rolls of various widths. The thickness I use is about 3/8". It is a foil sandwich with bubble wrap in between.

I actually don't know where my insulation came from. Send a PM to TypeSH. He bought some, and I bought his left overs.

I would love to do some datalogging of my IATs, but since I have the Hondata gasket, I'm sure my IATs are going to jump all over the place, whether I have the CAI insulator or not. My intake manifold warms up very slowly, if it isn't heat soaked, then its temps float around depending on RPMs and throttle position. I bet that my IAT will get pretty close to ambient if I cruise at 120 MPH for a few miles.

I assume it is Thermotec (thanks Marcucci), which can be found at http://www.thermotec.com/tt/flex.html

I can't find any R values. I called Thermotec, and spoke with someone, who is going to research it. I'll report back if I hear from him.

INSTALLMENT #3

Run #4:
Ambient temp @ traffic level about 22*C.
Nothing new to report. Same findings as previous.

Run #5:
Ambient temp about 30*C.
This is one of the hotter drives I've had and again, nothing different to report. Observations in keeping with previous drives.

Run #6:
Ambient about 12*C.
Nothing new to report.

I think this is enough runs with the insulated pipe. Next, I will remove the insulation and begin a new set of runs.

CONCLUSIONS:
The AEM CAI setup when insulated appears to work extremely well as a "cold air" intake. Once the car is moving and air is flowing nicely through the pipe, temperatures do, in fact, mimic what is being drawn in. Any "heat infiltration" due to being stopped very quickly dissipates - usually within 2 minutes. Small increases (<2*) dissipates in seconds.

For a very immediate demonstration of how effective insulation is cover your hand in the stuff and stick it over an open flame. The stuff works!

Gernby--where'd you get the insulator sleeve?
