Yes automapping will be enabled but to run it you have to have a FJO, or wideband O2 sensor. I just bought one for my Supra that set me back 700 plus 250 for the heater. AEM fails to mention that!

I just got my FJO last Monday, am looking forward to getting it installed. Yeah, AEM doesn't go into a lot of detail about anything, they definitely make the assumption that if you are getting their system, that you must have an understanding of what Standalone Engine Management is.

The AEM forum is pretty helpful, as well as their techs with phone support too.

Ham:

My car should begin street tuning with the EMS system next week....

Once automapping is enabled what will that allow you to do? Just specify air fuel ratios and it will match the fuel to get that ratio?? Also, what do you mean by "heater"?

Thanks!

I have located a place that sells the EMS for $1250 shipped. Do you guys know of a cheaper seller? what additional equipment do I need or would be wise to have? What does the FJO and heater do?

FJO is the mfr of a wideband O2 sensor. You can buy the kit which includes the controller and everything to hook it up to a AEM ems for about $748.75. Look at FJO wesite for info on that and dealers.

The wideband along with the automapping is supposed to do exactly that Chris, remap the fuel to match your desired AFR. This can only be done with a wideband O2. The release of the automap function is supposed to be next week still.

There is a lot of info on this at AEM EMS forum

For those of you who are interested, Speedcraft has tuned a turbo S2 with an AEM getting an additional 25 hp from that upgrade alone. Todd has told me that Speedcraft customers will have access to this information at no charge. Not looking for any bashing here, just posting a relavant statement.

By contract that is the cheapest an AEM distributor can sell the EMS. If you see anything cheaper they are going against their contract with AEM.

You dont just specify one number.. you have to specify a grid of numbers right? Just like a girl of fuel and ignition timing.. like I want X A/F ratio and X RPM and load?

I know for the normal tuning it's a grid of RPM and MAP (or boost). So, the main numbers to alter for a SC car would be diagnal from bottom left to top right. The EMS software can correct numbers around the ones that you modify by a change percentage. So, if you have the whole grid set to 0 when you start, and you change some numbers to 20 (just an example) the boxes around the 20's become 10's...to make it a smooth transition. I think the same type of map is used for the open loop (or is that closed?) mode. You could set X A/F for RPM and MAP.

Wasn't there a topic about getting a wideband o2 sensor from an Odyssey mini-van or some other honda vehicle? I thought ut was only about $400 or even cheaper from a junkyard.
