Default AEM EMS gains?

Anyone here run a AEM EMS + tuned on a stock motor or close to stock... ie ..intake and what kind of numbers did youy get.

I have an MY00 and was looking at getting the MY02-03 ecu just to gain some HP from the better tuned ecu as i've read on S2KI.

I was told buy a local shop that 12-15whp is possible (stock)on a well tuned AEM EMS..
Does this sound right?

AEM got a 23hp peak gain on their mustang dyno using their startup calibration and a V2 intake.

I seriously wouldn't even bother with a AEM EMS on a basically stock engine. It's a serious waste of money, but if you have plenty to burn be my guess.

I agree with turbo_pwr. Although, i have seen pretty good gains of i/h/e + ems. Gains worth the money? Well, we all know how hard it is to extract n/a power out of this car. I don't think i would get an ems for an intake. It might be a wise investment if you have plans to further build your engine.

It sucks that Honda didn't make the F20c ecu reflashable like the k-series. Then i wouldn't be obliged to buy an ems as the cheapest ecu tuning solution.

Here are recent gains with header, test pipe, cat-back, and EMS:

Pay attention to the deltas, there is very good midrange gained. Even without bolt ons, the Ems does make good power. Not a waste of money in my opinion. Or car is very rich up high from the factory as an added safety measure. Feul can be taken out in high RPM's safely to make more power.

Your car tested at 179.4 whp with the header, test pipe and catback. With the EMS, it tested at 183.8 whp. You gained 4.4 whp with the EMS.

The EMS didn't gain much over the bolt on's.

How is it not a waste of money? $1200? Try to get a new EMS for $1200, not that easy. Now add the money for tuning $500 if done right. Even if you do street tuning you still need to get a wideband system $400. Realistically you should be doing both. So now you are up around $2100. It's not like we are talking plug and play. Plus you lose a lot of your safety features and the EMS has a lot of little quirks. Like the temp gauge problem, which you really need.

Have you seen the dyno graphs UL has done with the Mugen ECU? You get similar gains and that's plug and play.
