AEM's ECU Replacment Computer
I called AEM today and spoke to them about their computer.. they said that there are two versions available, I didn't understand the difference but he described what I would want (for a turbo) as the "plug and play" version.. he said it would be available Jan 1 2002, it would handle positive manifold preasure (boost), ignition timing, have a boost sensitive fuel map and be programmable from a laptop. It would plugsin to the stock harness(he said some applications require you to change the map sensor, probably would not have to do this for the S2000, IMO) .. the web site would have info on it on Friday.. they are planning to offer a boost controller which would plug in to "GM" (???) wastegates (likely not available when first released), you would be able to control the rev limiter, have a shiftlight, and be able to program the results of not having a catalitic converter.. the laptop software would be downloaded from the AEM website, and apparently they are currently "learning what people want to hear about it" before they put up info on it..
I wonder if you'd need a fuel preasure regulator if you had this, or just a stronger fuel pump and the computer would handle the rest??

Ben and I spoke with AEM about this for quite sometime. It plugs right into the existing ECU and can do SOOOO MUCH MORE than a VAFC and other plug in ECU's.
The big issue they are having right now is who to sell them to, or have them sold through. One of the guys at the AEM booth at SEMA was stating how he didn't want companies like Summit Racing to distribute and sell this product because they want the sellers to take classes in how to tune the car using their product.
Cool features, you can save particular maps for different configurations, or say... when I have a turbo released to the market, this would be part of the package and so would the customized / tuned "map" that the ECU would follow.
Its very slick and there really isnt much it cannot do, and if you think of something it cannot do, they will build it in.
