Default Airbox off in winter

I know there are a billion threads similar, but I want to know if you still get the loss in performance when its cold outside.

I know on a hot day, it can bog the engine, but what about now in fall and winter when its cold outside (like 40 and below?)

For the end of summer, I had just the lid off. Best sound ever!
Now recently, i took off the whole box leaving just the filter and plastic tube, then secured everything out of the way and tight using zip ties.

It is behind the radiator still, but its decently low to the body of the car. Will it pick up any updraft of cold air from underneath?

BTW, with the whole box off, the sound is more hard and raspy than with just the lid off... Not bad by any means but not as good as the first option imo.

Anyways, do you think ill still lose preformance? Reason is, im going against a mustang gt today and dont want to lose performance if possible.

Thanks

I think you would be better off leaving it on. I've seen dynos posted on here with people running their car with the top on and with the top off and it didn't make a difference and that was with a fan blowing on it. Just leave it on.

Removing the top negates the pressurization effect you get from the stock airbox. With the lid on, pressure is generated inside the box that actually assists the motor with bringing in more air.

Is it a big difference? I don't know, but if the lid off made more power I think Honda would've done that from the factory.

But then again, it's just an intake...I wouldn't obsess over it too much. There are better ways to make more power from of an engine.

A stock AP1 will pull on an mustang GT years <05. And you will need much more then just an intake mod to beat an >05 MY. I would say I/H/fullE AP2 would have trouble with newer mustang.

well its a 05 gt.

however, its gonna be from a roll, the mustang is an auto, and the driver isn't that good, so i might have a chance.

I already have the box off, here's a pic.

i was just wondering if it still suffered the heatsoak in the winter.

is there any way to seal the air box but still get that great sound?
maybe make the lid out of a different material?

Just get an aftermarket air intake...K&N FIPK or whatever. The heatshield it includes helps a bit, but once you're moving the underhood temps should be pretty much ambient. The whole "hot air under the hood" thing is way overhyped and is only an issue if your car is stationary for extended periods...and like I said, once you're moving -- it's negated.
