More common I believe is the above mentioned 6-2 miss shift, as you are already pulling down and towards you, too much sideways pull could force it into 2nd.
You mean 5th to 2nd?

I watch a lot of Best Motoring videos, and I did see the drivers misshift from 2nd to 3rd, to 1st instead, and 3rd to 4th, to 2nd instead. It does happen, even to the pros.

you're talking about shifting into 2nd gear while the engine speed is UNDER RED-LINE. i was talking about when you're driving like 75mph and trying to shift from 3rd to 4th, and going into 2nd by accident.

i saw some dude do it to his old integra on youtube and he starts saying "oh my God oh my God oh my God" after he spins out and then can't start the car again. i felt bad for him, but come on, learn how to drive?
yes, under redline as you said in the oringinal post 58mph~ or something.
but misshifting into redline .. thats another story.

yes, my AP2 red lines in 2nd gear at about 58 MPH. so...............trying to downshift into 2nd gear at a speed greater than that would mean you're going to be over 8,000 RPM, correct? is fuel cutoff at 8200 RPM or something? whatever, you knew what i was talking about and i'm assuming you just decided to be a jerk about it.

merry christmas, everyone! oh, and happy chanukah and merry kwanza.
Just wanted to point this out for any noobs who may come across this thread who are unclear as to what the rev-limiter does and how it works. It will kill ignition to the engine when you try to rev the engine above the limit, however it will NOT stop the engine from running faster then the redline when you incorrectly downshift to too low of a gear. At this point there would be no fuel/ignition going to the engine, but rather the wheels would most the gears, which would in turn move the engine. So the wheels will run the engine at a higher speed then it was made for and boom, no more engine. The rev limiter can only prevent over-rev when you are accelerating in gear, not when downshifting.

Again I know everyone in this thread probably realizes this, but feel like someone should post this info anytime the rev-limiter is mentioned for the sake of noobs. I have read too many posts by people who think it will save their engine in all situations.

Mis-shifts are driver errors, the car cannot correct driver errors.

Anyone can misshift but it seems to me that after you own the car for a period of time you'll always have the correct feeling before disengaging the clutch.
The shift lever position is an instinctive giveaway that should protect you from a disaster.
Trust your instincts and live to drive your car without costly interuptions.
