Default Alternator failure

Hey guys, I was out driving a few days ago and randomly my EPS light came on, then went away. Then all of my dash lights shut off (car was still on and moving) and turned on and off. I pulled into a parking lot and It made a weird low pitched hum, then started to shudder and then eventually died. I had it jumpstarted, but the car would not move under its own power, made the noise again and died.

I thought it was my battery, so I got a new one, stated the car up, and tested it with a voltmeter. It was reading really low for a new battery. The alternator was drawing so much from the battery, the car eventually died again. Ordered a new alternator and installed it today. Car starts up and runs good, but my question is, what should the normal output be for the alternator? I took it to have it tested and it was reading less than 30A. What is the normal voltage for a battery with a new alternator?? Could there be a short somewhere? Thanks for any help!

Edit: Loud humming noise I mentioned before came back...

taken from the S2000 workshop manual, Alternator/regulator test.

start engine warm up till the fan kicks in then let the engine idle,

raise engine speed to 2000rpm turn on head lights to main beam and check voltage at battery terminals,
voltage should be between 13.9 and 15.1,

Then turn on ALL electrical systems and check amperage,
it should be more than 57.5amps,
