Default Alternator Information / Compatibility questions

Hey guys,
The alternator on MY01 died. I'm hoping to find information regarding model year changes on the Alternator. I compiled part number info as shown below but I have a question that hopefully can be answered: Do '06+ alternators work on the AP1? 06 is were the part number changes but can it still be used?

'00 - 31100-PCX-J02
'01 - 31100-PCX-J02
'02 - 31100-PCX-J02
'03 - 31100-PCX-J02
---
'04 - 31100-PCX-J02
'05 - 31100-PCX-J02
---
'06 - 31100-PZX-003
'07 - 31100-PZX-003
'08 - 31100-PZX-003 (Non-CR)
'09 - 31100-PZX-003 (Non-CR)

Thanks,

I doubt it, but I don't know for sure.

You always see a bunch of alternators for sale on Ebay, and they never spec one alternator for all vehicles. It's probably something minor, but there's no way of knowing. Even the remanufactured ones they post are either '00-'05 or '06-'09.

I picked up a spare alternator on Ebay for $50 delivered a few weeks ago. There's nothing wrong with my original one but I plan on keeping my car for a long time and I don't want to get stuck buying a reman from a dealer on short notice.

Sorry to bring back from the dead, but I'm coming across this problem now between an 07 and 05. Has anyone made the swap yet?

If you look at each component of these two alternators, you will find that each component in both of these alternators have the identical part numbers except for two parts - the rear cover and the regulator assembly. I'm guessing that the rear cover is something minor, possibly because the rear cover has the part ID number on it. But the regulator assembly is a big deal. The 06-09 regulator assembly is significantly more expensive than the 00-05 version.

Here's my guess: The newer models may require more precise voltage regulation and/or a slightly different mean voltage to work better with various upgraded electronics. If you can get the specs on each regulator assembly, you will find the difference in the two versions.

Alternatively, you could buy the 06-09 alternator, swap out the regulator and rear cover with your old one and use it. That's assuming your old one doesn't have a problem with the regulator.

Edit: If the problem with your old alternator is flickering, that's the rectifier. If you're still measuring voltage correctly, then the regulator should still be good in your old alternator.

Well, so far my '05 is doing alright, but I've had bad luck with anything electrical going out on me in the past. So I'll be keeping it on hand as a spare.

It sounds like the older alternators wouldn't keep up with the newer models, but the newer alternators are more than enough for the older models. If the '07 alternator doesn't work on my '05, I can save it for my '08 CR .

Thanks for the response!

Oh boy. I just bought a spare alternator thinking all ap2 alternators are same. I have a 04 & seller was driving 07 (but alternator wasn't off from his car)
How do I tell which year alternator by looking?
Does anyone know if 06 fits in 04?
