Amps drawn by S2000 starter motor?
Hi All,
I haven't been driving my S2K very much
/> and sometimes the battery has gone dead. I'm planning on buying a portable charger from the local auto parts store. It's really just a large rechargeable battery with jumper leads (so my description of "charger" isn't completely accurate - it's just meant to jump start the car).
They are sold as 900, 1200, and 1900 amps. The 900 amp is described as "suitable for 4-cylinder family car", the 1200 amp is described as "suitable for 6-cylinder family car".
I'd prefer the 900 amp, as the unit is slightly thinner and lighter. However, of primary importance is that the unit works as intended. Price isn't a factor; I'm happy to buy whatever works, although the 1900 amp unit is quite bulky, and we all know the S2K boot is tiny

Any recommendations? 900 / 1200 / something higher powered?
Thanks,
Scott

I call em jump packs. Anyway, let's just look at the s2000 battery. Roughly 500 cold cranking amps (625 cranking amps), right? the 900 amp is more than enough.
How long does the car have to sit to kill your battery? Might have a parasitic draw that needs diagnosing.

Hi T-S.M.A.C,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. The battery's not that old - 3-4 months? But, I can go 3-4 weeks without starting the S, depending on business travel. So, I don't know if a new battery + 3-4 weeks without starting should equal a dead battery. I can ask the mechanic to look for a parasitic draw the next time I take it in for a service.
Thanks for the tech details - I'll buy the 900 amp jump pack.
Regards,
Scott
