Default Anyone have problems reaching 9000 RPM's

My 01 S2000 seems to stall around 7500 RPM's instead of 9000. It is starting to really bother me. Every time I want to get on it the car stalls. What could be causing this and does it happen to any other owner of this type car.

By "stall" I assume you mean some type of fuel or ignition cut off.

Here are a few possibilities:

1. The engine is not warmed up. Wait until 3 bars before going into VTEC or the computer will cut back on you.

2. The ECU is picking up some condition it doesn't like and throttling back, like low oil pressure.

3. Your car has a serious problem, like a bad sensor, ecu, or worse and your dealer needsto take a look.

But to answer your question, no a properly warmed up, properly running S2000 will have NO PROBLEM accelerating to redline!

My S seems to like 7-9k best of all. Never a problem getting there. In fact, if I'm not real quick on the shifter, it will go over 9k so quickly that I can't catch it. I'd have it looked at by a reputable dealer. You will really like your S when it is back to normal!

I have an 02' model and am having the same problem. Only if the car is not warmed up (less than 3 bars), the engine will not exceed 7,000 rpm's. Is this normal? Once the car is warmed up, I have no problem getting to the 9,000 redline (and what a feeling it is!).

Totally normal. Protects the engine.

That brings back memories. The first time I VTEC'ed the car, the RPM went up SO FAST that caught me by surprise!

While most here will talk about 3-bars, the ECU actually senses oil pressure, correctly stated by "
pfb" (the lower the temp the higher the viscosity and thus lower the pressure). Around three bars of water temp the oil is thin enough to allow the V-TEC Solenoid to actively engage.

On a more serious note; no I have never experienced the aforementioned problem.
