Ok I know alot of people have lowered the vtec engagement point. But The problem seems that when ya lower it to low ya get a nasty hesitation. This can sort of be corrected with the vtec management/correction setting. But still if ya lower it to say 5000 it does have a hesitation to some extent no matter what
correction you use. The engine actually becomes really loud and if ya have a cia it gets real loud almost like its having trouble pulling air. But anyway after installing my air fuel gauge not wide band but still an air/fuel gauge (no flames)
I decided to play with the vtec engagment point again. I set it at 5000 L to H cam. 4900 H to L cam. I previous had it set to 5700 and 5600 because any lower was losing power. Anyway after i set it to 5000 and did some runs!between 5000 and 6000 I was getting lean on the a/f gauge. I added fuel with the vafc between these rpm figures like +8 on two points and presto she takes off like a bat out of hell at 5000 rpm.
I am getting a consistant reading on my a/f gauge. It is so smooth the transition between low and high cam not even evident. Boy My car is faster than she has ever been. Its great on the highway if ya don't want to do a killer downshift, bam vtec is there and it just feels so smooth. Anyway I know the next step is to go to the dyno and see what this looks like with a wide ban and see how the dyno chart looks. But boy its like a whole new car. So smooth and it rips through first.
no lag. Any way just wondering if anyone else try this. I've read a few post where people lower the vtec low say 4800 or 5000, always mentioned the hesitation and the vtec correction but never mentioned adding fuel. Any thoughts!

As far as mods I have aem cai, 4.44 ring and pinion, bored out cat (basically a regular cat with all the guts bored out making it a stealth test pipe) Spoon thermo, rad cap, and switch, sheep dog exhaust, removed ecu fuse, I have nitrous which i don't use in the winter therefore i am able to run the leaner vafc settings. I will post my settings when I get dressed and out to my car!

Mine is set at 5200 rpm, but it's supercharged. Transition is so smooth you cant tell when it kicks in. Just feel it pulling all the way through. Similar VAFC settings.

how bout that dyno?
My dyno guy has an outside dyno. Stops pulls in November til spring called today and no more appointments til the spring. So I might have to go else where which i hate to do because i like to use the same dyno

Here are my settings: WIde open:

1000 -1
2000 -2
3100 -5
4100 -6
4500 -8
4800 -8
5000 0

5100 +8
5900 +4
6100 -5
6500 -5
7300 -6
7700 -7
8400 -11
9000 -9

l-h 5000
h-l 4900

lo 10% hi 50%

hi-lo -8
lo-hi -8

Partial throttle are similar just not as High about 1/2 to 3/4 of the fuel negative and positive fuel settings. I've achieved these figures thru a dyno when my hi-lo was at 5700 and lo-hi at 5600. I obviously played with the vtec change over and the management since then. Hence the added fuel between the difference if stock vtec and my lowered vtec. I assume the high cam needs more fuel then the computer gives it since the cpu assumes the low cam should be operating at these lower rpm. Wow Took a hard drive today and she pulls hard when vtec kicks in at 5000 rpm. But the butt dyno can be deceiving. So I'll really have to do a dyno run. I was just wondering if other tried this. I see rcr has but he has a s/c and the extra air might help him even more. Ok I might play with an even lower vtec setting see where it takes me. My next step would be to do gtech 0 to 60 runs to see if anything comes of this. Anything above 0 to 60 would be a waste of time considering after first gear ya never get below 6000 rpm anyway.

I believe it is supposed to have the same effect as resetting the ECU like when you disconnect the battery.
