Thumbs up Anything to watch out for when installing battery?

My battery is pretty much dead and today I went to get a new OEM battery from the dealership.

I'll be installing it tomorrow and am just wondering if there's anything I should be aware of when installing the battery in order to not electrocute myself.

Spent quite a bit of search but it seems like the installation is so simple that there's no DIY or anything.

Thanks for the help in advance!

When removing take off the negative first then positive. When installing put on the positive first then negative.

if it comes with covers, keep em on til its snug in the compartment, if it doesnt, wrap the + side with elec. tape...just in case you drop a wrench while tightening the tie downs. lots of sparks = not fun.

12v wont electrocute you, it'll have to get past coilpacks to 'hurt'. You could hold both terminals and you have so much resistance that the voltage is not enough to push it through. It has enough AMPS to kill you, but it wont be able to go through you so its all good.

Thanks for the replies

When I bought the battery, the person just handed me the battery, with no packaging or anything. Is this normal?

In the local forum, one person says it's supposed to come with yellow and green wires and an installation manual. Am I being screwed by the dealer here?

Make sure the battery you get has the terminal posts in the correct positions. Two batteries may look identical in size and such, but one could be a "reverse" one.

Red to + black to -. That's it. Nothing to worry about. It's pretty standard for the battery to come by itself. Just don't let anything go from the + to the body or the - post.

dont' over analyze vik, just pop it in there and get it tied down and then attach the terminals and tighten them up. You might want to file down the attachment wires if they are at all corroded but you should be good to go just by tightening them.

When you're done, you may need to reset the radio code, too.
