So does anyone know if the metal brackets have to be really stiff or can I just make some out of some soft bendable aluminum brackets or something

Here is a picture of mine I made out of aluminum I bought at home depot.

How did you make that? did u just buy those bars and bend it by hand?

PAS2KNut 05-03-2009 01:12 PM

Bought a strip of the flat metal at home depot measured and bent it in a vise by hand and drilled the holes.

Hmm do you remember the thickness? I don't have a vice grip but I do have some plyers and monkey wrenches. lol

Has anyone else done this? I'm doing this now, and realized the holes on the side (curve by the rear wheel) don't match. Do I make a bracket for that too?

no you just re-drill one more hole by matching it up with the bracket behind the bumper. It should be a couple of inches above

I think I'll be doing this soon. You guys can just measure and then buy some channel aluminum from somewhere. The bends would be stronger and probably look better since the channel is formed in that shape.

I'm pretty sure you can buy 1'' to 1.5'' channel aluminum. It'd be more dimensionally stable than using flexible aluminum strips and more exact and stronger than bending it yourself.

Do you still have your AP1 bumper? If so, would you want to sell it?

It was damaged in a track crash. But it's totally fixable if you want to paint it.

Apparently the body shop said my foam wouldn't fit at all. They just left it out. I'm putting the car away for winter storage...so I can buy the foam later....unless there is a way to shave it down or something?

I guess I'll have to take the bumper off, take a look and let you guys know.

They didn't put the front foam in either...hmm.

I'll have to either give up and buy the right foam or cut mine down or something.
