AP1 Cams In AP2

Post AP1 Cams In AP2

I have an 03 ap1 that i am swapping an ap2 motor into, i will be running an ap1 flywheel with ap1 computer on the ap2 motor. now my question is, can i put my ap1 cams into the ap2 and gain anything from it'? or lose anything? is this a good idea or not even go there? any help and opinions will be great, and thanks in advance

The common wisdom says put an AP1 intake cam and AP2 exhaust cam.

why is this? and how will it affect the performance of the motor???

Will affect it very little.

The AP1 has more lift and duration.

so should i not even bother and just sell my ap1 cams>???? i will be running the ap1ecu like i said before, having this ecu will it run better with ap1cams or should i just keep the ap2 ones in there?

OK, i haven't written up my Thread yet, but i did this with my turbo setup... which is quite different than a N/A setup. But i thought you might appreciate the info. With my log maniold, i hit boost 500 rpms later, than i did with my AP2 Cams...

With a tubular manifold (ie your setup) enenthough its still N/A, the the added duration should help your power. I will post dyno pics later. I personally would give it a shot, depending on if you rev your motor to 9K

thank you thats a little more helpful, yes i do rev my motor to 9k, well i will once its in, i just dont want to hurt the motor since it was not made to rev that high,,, so i figured if i switched the cams to the higher reving ap1 cams that this would help the situation out.

valve springs and retainers might be more important than cams when over reving the motor. The bottom is is well strong enough to take the additional RPMs but the top end over a good amount of time will break down.

the limitation of rpm on the ap2 didnt have anything to do with the cams.

the issue with rev'ing the 2.2 to 9k is the side loading on the rods from the increased angle due to the longer stroke of the crank. When i was testing my car on the dyno, i upped the rpm to 9k and the drop in power wasn't as great as it was when i had had the ap2 intake cam in. However, the torque curve was still falling off.
