Thumbs up AP1 Flywheel in 04+ (AP2)

How the daily commute? Is shifting any more rough? I've gotten my 1st-2nd shift silky smooth now with my stock flywheel and don't want to sacrifice if an AP1 flywheel makes it less smooth.

Is the AP1 Flywheel lighter than the AP2?

It shouldnt effect shifting at all. Everybody I know that has done this has been very happy and had no regrets. It shouldve came that way from factory. You might have to rev it a little higher to get it off the line, but not as much as you would with an aftermarket lightweight flywheel. Your revs will go up much faster and it will make daily driving much more easier.

It's more than that. The AP1 is 13lbs IIRC.

How hard is it to swap out if I don't need clutch replacement? My '05 clutch still has plenty of life on it. Is this an afternoon job for two people? I've tried to look for a DIY but there doesn't seem to be one for flywheel removal.

Edit: I'm also looking for some first hand experiences, AP2 owners please share it would be very helpful.

^serious?

You obviously have to drain tranny.
remove tranny.
remove clutch.
remove flywheel.

place new flywheel
and reinstall everything else.

it's just like a clutch job, except you take the flywheel off.

If you've had previous experience, it's probably a walk in the park.
If not, expect to be down for the better amount of an entire day.

First clutch I did on my 240sx took me a night. 10pm - 3 or 4am.
RWD platforms are easy to work on, imo.

BTW, Tech?? I'm looking to get there by next spring or so!

No offense but it seems you dont know a thing about clutches/flywheels/trannys. I suggest you find a good shop to do this. It will be extremely expensive, it takes about 4-8 hours if they know what theyre doing. The clutch is bolted on to the flywheel. If I had an AP2 I wouldnt spend all the money and time just to change the flywheel. I would only change the flywheel if I had to change the clutch. Kill 2 birds with one stone. If you have a shop do it for you, with parts itll probably come out to a grand. Then a few years later youll have to pay that again to have them change the clutch. Just wait till your clutch gives out, the gains arent THAT great to spend that much money on.

If you don't want to fork over $ to a shop (which you shouldn't) and if you have another car you can drive around, go for it.

Just have someone that knows what they're doing around at all times.
I'd love to come help if you're in the metro ATL area.. all we'll need is a FSM and extensions and such.
