Default AP1 Pressure Plate

Recently bought my second S2000 after selling my ‘06 two years ago (and regretting it ever since). This one is an ‘02 in Silverstone Metallic AP1 that was owned by a coworker who purchased new. 124k miles, but fortunately they were most freeway commute miles and this thing was never really driven to hard. Should be a fun project car!

At any rate, the clutch desperately needs to be replaced, so purchased all of the OEM parts online, however the pressure plate is backordered by Honda with no ETA. Have any of you been in a similar situation and found a suitable workaround? Always prefer OEM quality but I would love to get this thing back on the road, and there’s no telling how long Honda will have the PP backordered.

For context, the car is 100% stock so OEM-spec is suitable, and preferred.

I searched eBay and was only finding used parts — guess I wasn’t searching hard enough. Just ordered!

Look for and read clutch diy's in this forum.

Find the Honda service manual procedure.

There are several things you can get wrong with this clutch if not done properly.

Great advice — the car had its clutch done in 2015 at an Aamco and it’s only had 10k miles put on it since. The bill of work just said “clutch replacement kit” so god knows what parts they used, and I wouldn’t trust an Aamco to do an A+ job regardless. The result is the clutch had a terrible chatter when grabbing, which has slowly turned into severe slipping. I bought the car knowing it had a couple of issues (and it was priced accordingly), so no major surprises.

I’ve done some reading (hence the decision to stick with purely OEM) but will go through thoroughly. I won’t be doing the clutch myself as I don’t have the space (or time), but it will help me cover my bases when having a local shop handle.

Open to any other advice, or local SoCal shop recommendations (I’m in Long Beach), because I definitely don’t want to do this again anytime soon!

For future reference it is possible to resurface and re-use the existing pressure plate. When I had my clutch replaced by Billman at his shop that is what he did. They can last quite a long time.

I have resurfaced and reused countless oem pressure plates. I guarantee them for the life of the disc.

The used PPs (upwards of 100) currently have a 100% trouble free track record. Will easily out last, and out perform, any new pressure plate you can buy (aside from new OEM or the ACT)

Second that, I've had personal good success with reusing pressure plates.
