Default Ap1 Tranny

I'm not too familiar when in comes to transmission crap besides pulling them and puttin them back in. My tranny is clicking pretty bad and I think my shift fork is bent. Not really too sure. (here is where i may get harped on) How difficult is it to take an AP1 tranny apart to see wtf is going on in there? I really dont have the money at all to buy a used tranny and wonder if taking it apart would be worth it. Excuse my "noob-ness"

Buy a Helms. It's not bad if you're mechanically inclined.

It is not difficult with the right tools, including as mentioned the Helm's, and if you are mechanically inclined. I would say if you can remove and replace the tranny you can rebuild it too. I am rebuilding mine as we speak. Shift forks worn past service limit and bad synchros, replacing bearings for good measure.

Youre going to find out very quickly how expensive the replacement parts are . It will be much cheaper to find a good used tranny !

The replacement parts are at least comparable if not less expensive in my experience. For example, a "good" used transmission can be found for about $1600 on ebay.....BUT you don't know the condition of the used transmission until you get it and install it and try it out. I KNOW the condition of mine when I am done rebuilding it, like brand new. A brand new transmission will set you back $3600. I have about $1200 in parts in this one and another $500 in tools that I can keep and use for other things too. So price is comparable and I am more comfortable spending that kind of money on something I know the condition of when I am done installing it.

Mine is an AP2 transmission, admittedly AP1's can be found for less than the $1600 for a used AP2

You have to buy the entire 2nd gearset (which includes a new 2nd gear and 1st and 2nd synchros)
Part number: 23432-PCY-316

I have seen plenty of used ap1 trannys for around $700.00 . A couple of gearsets and a shift fork will cost more than that !
