Default AP2 Retainers upgrade

HI,

I'm looking to do an upgrade on Reatiners and keepers from AP2 to my 01 AP. Are the part numbers the ones on line 7 and 8 of the link below? Also qty of 8 of each one, right?

No.

You will need 8 retainers (#7)
And 16 cotters (#9) (cotters/keepers are the same)

#8 is a spring seat which you definitely do not need.

Wow look at the price for one 3pc rocker, things have gone up considerably.

They've been over $200 each for the last two years.

Thanks for the input on part numbers. I obviously will get the valve cover gasket, the one for the spark plugs and some spark plugs but it still wonder me why some people are paying like $600 to get this done. I mean for this easy but very delicate job I wouldn't give my car to a newbie mechanic but there is not even $25 bucks inluding the shipping

It does take a good 3 hours to do, between removing the valve cover, the cam caps, rubber banding the rockers and lifting them out of the way, prepping the cheap tool to compress the valve springs etc etc. Maybe it's just me, I like to take my time doing engine work because mistakes can be very costly.

Makes me wonder what happens to all the "cheap" tools that get modified. Are they needed again, disposed of thrown in the bottom of the tool box? I might be interested in buying one already altered.

Idk I hoard any tool I use and never let people borrow them unless they're in plain sight. After my $110 1/4" drive tq wrench went missing I stopped trusting people with my tools.

I posted a detailed thread with good pictures when I did the job. TAKE YOUR TIME and carefully lay out the parts as you disassemble. I spent a ton of time trying to line up the first one, but it got exponentially faster once you get the technique.

Also make sure you aren't stupid like me and leave a ratchet on the crankshaft bolt when you go to start it right after
