Axle nut TSB on 2009
Did the axle nut TSB on a 2009 today with 11k miles.
Usually the nut goes from 12 oclock to 2 oclock.
On this car both nuts went to 3 oclock.
Bottom line, the newer cars are at an even worse state when it comes to axle nut torque. If you own any year S2000, your car needs the axle nut tsb.
If you dont do it, you will be posting in UTH about clicking noises, rotational noises, bad bearings, and bad hubs

been meaning to do this. is it best to do it with tires on? or up on jackstand with ebrake and in 1st gear?
what is the tool required?
i read you have to unstake it, do you just use a pick or small screwdriver to pry it out and then torque it to 2pm.
i would take it to honda however I don't really have any trust in them doing it correctly.
a step by step or even pictures would be greatly appreciated.

That 2009 was mine...my trip out to Billman was well-timed - my bearings had not eaten themselves yet
Besides the axle nuts, I believe you found a couple of other bolts on my car that weren't adequetely torqued...(one of them was under the valve cover)
Thanks again for the education on my new wheels

Is there an actual DIY with pictures? I've read a few threads about this but im mechanically retarded and dont understand the procedure. I change my oil/tires/diff/trans fluid on the s2000 myself but thats about it.
thanks!
thanks!
Funny, just had to replace both rear hubs/bearings last fall at 40,000 miles on my MY07. Thought it odd that they wore prematurely, chalked it up to too many track days in the last 4-5 years. But maybe it was poorly torqued rear axle nuts that contributed. So I started hearing the clicking about a month ago and took it back to the same dealer, but requested a certain mechanic who drives an S2K and is known to be more knowledgeable. It turns out the nuts were reused when the hubs were replaced, and tightened only back to the original marks (no second stake marks) without any lube on the face. He replaced both nuts and torqued them properly and now no more clicking.
this is beginning to sound (pardon the pun) like it could be a big deal for all model years. Glad I caught it (thanks S2KI), too bad I cannot prove a cause and effect with the original bearing/hub wear.
