bad cylinder
Recently took my 2005 into the dealer w/ 6k miles and the check engine light on. Turns out they have decided that the cylinder had decreased pressure due to the cylinder wall had "unusual" markings on it. They are fixing it under warranty. Replacing the "short block". I am not a car guy and am not sure what that means. They reassure me it will be as good as new. Honda is throwing in a 5y/60k honda care warranty. Should I be satisfied? Or should I spend money at the dealer to try and get a new car?
Thanks
Thanks
Well, you're not entitled to a new car unless you're planning on selling this one, then buying another one. What I mean is that this isn't justification for the dealer to offer you anything more than they look like they already are.
It sounds like they're taking good care of you. I'd be pretty happy with this treatment as long as they do good work.

I agree. They are meeting their obligation.
The question is, do you think this kind of history and repair work 6k into the car is bad enough to warrent spending some cash to start over w/ a new 06. I don't know much about the probability of future problems w/ this kind of major work. Since I have purchased 3 hondas from this same dealer and have gotten 10y worth of maint/service work there they are calling me with a price for a trade and purchase in the am. What price would you pull the trigger and take the new car vs just keeping the 05?
Thanks

This wasn't because of the "drive it like you stole it from day 1" kinda break-in procedure... wasn't it?
Just asking.
Btw.. how would 6k miles need an oil change allready?
IIRC you were supposed to leave the first oil in for (at least) 6k miles.
No?

Oiling problems and cylinder damage to number 4 has been an ongoing problem with this engine since introduction. Improvements have been made over the years but apparently the basic design flaw still raises its head occasionally. This is not a break-in procedure issue.

I've been searching for the cylinder #4 failure.
Found some threads about them, IMO no proper diagnose to be honest.
You say "design flaw", could you explain a bit more (or direct me to a thread)
It being an oil related problem I'm glad I've got the 0W-40 oil in.
During cold starts when the revs jump to 2000-2500 rpm
for the first couple of seconds I'm a little more assured there is oil flow where it needs to be.
Allthough it probably happens with engines at operating temp as well?
