Well i did try to get it replaced for free prior to asking to split the costs. (didn't type the whole conversation). He basically laughed at me. I just want it taken care of. I'll pay the $200... and do my own oil changes from now on.

If this doesn't get taken care of by the dealer, I'll just buy the Mugen baffled oil pan. I'd rather pay $360 for that, and replace it myself than pay $400 for them to change it with another oem one.

Call american Honda customer service...tell them what they did. They should make it right. Look they broke it and they should have to fix it. If the dealer is being a bitch go over their head. Call AHM and tell them what happened.

Another example of the "dealer service tax" in action.

Yeah i saw that earlier today. My dealer quoted me $399.99 with labor. Amazing how unbolting a pan can cost that much.

You get Honda USA on your side and then see how much they laugh at you. (Bunch of idiots.)

Depending on the reputation of the dealership and the standing of the dealership with Honda of America, you should be able to get the oil pan fixed for free (dealer cost).

However, if you did nothing to cause the bolt to strip out - why the heck did you offer to split the cost with the dealership???
The dealership will use this as ammo against you ... in that you're in some way admitting that you caused the problem yourself, and not the dealership.

If you're 100% sure that you can show by your records that your car has had the oil changed every 3,000 miles at that dealership (over the past several thousand miles), you have more than enough evidence to show the dealership is responsible for the damage. However, if the records show any inconsistency in oil change intervals or a skipped oil change (indicating you or someone else changed the oil), you may have screwed the pooch by offering up a split.
If you have your ducks all in a row, present this info to Honda of America, and they should jump in your corner.

Keep in mind that every Honda Dealership has their advertisement budget subsidized by HOA. If HOA receives enough customer complaints about a certain dealership, they cut or drop this subsidy. You can also report this dealership to the BBB.
A word of advice ... stop going to this dealership for service ... or better yet - change your own oil.

For note: my pan was bad from the factory, in that it stripped out on the first oil change - going out. Honda covered it and it only took about an hour and ten minutes to change out.

Well I have had it changed there every 3k miles, haven't missed one in the past 25k miles.

Why offer the split? Because I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the threading does receive some normal wear and tear. I just figured 50% would be sufficient.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I actually will be contacting Honda America if they don't cooperate without giving me something. But to be honest I'd be happy with 50% off.

Thanks again for all the advice.

If an oil drain bolt is properly fastened, there is no reason the pan should not last 20+ years.
