There are three big battery manufacturers. All the other companies just brand off those. Prices can vary for essentially the same battery. Most aftermarket car batteries sold in the U.S.are made by Johnson Controls, which supplies more than half of the market; Exide; and East Penn.

Get the one you want for the best price and orientation of positive and negative that you want. I bargained with my Honda dealer ( I was about to get a Costco but it is was not an R battery) and he came in with a good deal. A battery minder helps it last longer.

Thanks Cosmo!
II just checked, AutoZOne has them (Duralast) for $150, free install and takes the old battery.
I didn't think to check out my local Honda dealer. I figured they would be expensive. But will do in the A.M.
Thanks again!

OEM bought directly from Honda. It will come with a 100 month warranty and cost you about $100.

I went from a OEM to a NAPA premium battery can't say enough how good it is. Almost as good as OEM at less the cost. They have a 3 year warranty and priced well see if they have one in your area. They make good batteries

Don't get the Advance autoparts brand battery, they always leak.

Jim, my Johnson Control made Autozone battery for my Element, was made in Mexico. Not sure if the US plants still make batteries for consumer cars.

I was able to use the standard 51 size battery in my S2000. Just reversed the battery in the holder. The terminal wires reach fine. Note: Battery is made in South Korea. I haven't seen a made in US battery in a few years.

Been running the Napa battery as well (in the s2k and another of my cars) and no issues with them. Price is decent too.

The hands down best battery I recall having in a car ever was made by Panasonic. Came in my 04 Scion tC when I bought it new. Lasted 10 years through 10 minnesota winters before it started to get weak. Thought "oh well I will get another one of those" when it started going and not only was it harder to find, but was $350 - $400 if I remember correctly lol. Went then to an Optima which was a huge mistake as Optima went into the toilet as far as I am concerned. Had one in that car and one in our 4runner, both were junk in less than 3 years. So I stay away from Optima anymore.

It seemed that some Japanese made batteries lasted the life of the cars. I remember some of those old 1990s Civics would still be on the same battery, 100K miles later. I don't think Panasonic is made in Japan anymore. As far as I know, South Korea and Taiwan now. Maybe Malaysia?
