I did a similar thing, I was in 3rd at redline and slammed into second on accident, probabbly hit 12,000 rpm, i bought oem retainers(16) and oem cotters(32) and my mechanic is putting them in today, so parts and labor is about 500.00 bucks. Honestly my car was running fine but these boards scared the crap out of me about a cracked retainer. And I know that you can take the valve cover off and check it out however to get a really good look at it you need to take the cams out, so i decided hell just replace them and i will feel good again. So you could of cracked a retainer or not the prob is you wont know til it goes boom.

DJpeak, you need to let us know the condition of yours when you pull them. Bear in mind stuff may not always be visible..

Ok...I'm an idiot too...I was doing right around 80-82 and dropped the car into 3rd...Now based on the top speed per gear found at https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0&#entry7690546, how concerned should I be...I saw the "needle" bounce twice all the way through red...

And yes, i'm an idiot for doing this...

i dont think you should be worried at all, when you worry is when you slam 3rd gear redlined down to second on accident
