Unhappy Black smoke from mufflers

Hello,
I was driving in front of my friend one night and we were both going at high speeds together and he noticed black smoke come out my mufflers. I didn't pay attention as It didn't do it again for a while. Recently this has happened when the vtec kicks in. It's happened atleast 3 times this past month. The car drives like new but what could be causing this? Any suggestions?

i've read that it's a result of our cars running rich. black smoke under hard acceleration i wouldn't worry about.....blue smoke, that's bad news.

I have the same problem. A bunch of smoke from the exhaust when I hit VTEC. But you say this is normal?

Its the carbon buildup being blown out. Its perfectly normal. The longer you havent VTECed, the bigger the cloud.
