Default BOV for Comptech SC

I was looking through a car mag today and saw this:

It's a direct replacement for the Bosch unit used in Audis, VWs, and the Comptech Supercharger.

I'm going out to Turbosmart (they're an Australian company) to install one next week and I'll see what we can arrange.

With the Comptech or Vortech S/C, does the BOV vent to air (VTA) or is it a recirculating valve? I ask because I just ordered the Evo MR recirc valve - it would be a good option if the S/Cs are recirc, also.

The Comptech SC uses a recirculation or bypass valve. That is, one side connects to the boost side of the sc and the other to the intake tract. Many people want a BOV so that rather than feeding warm air into the intake they can vent it to atmosphere (and also for the 'phfsst' noise).

This device has an in, and both a recirulate and vent. You twist a knob so you can choose between recirculation (for emissions) or vent (for showing off).

This is incorrect. The knob on all these units is just the spring tension. The ratio between vent and bypass is set.

I got it!

The guys at Turbosmart were great. Gave me a tour of the factory where it's all made and helped me test both the full vent version and the plumb back/vent version.

There are actually three types:
A direct replacement for the Bosch unit that plumbs back
A unit that plumbs back at idle but releases to atmo at bigger boost (the one pictured in the first post)
And a full vent to atmo BOV.

I tried the dual unit but I couldn't hear any noise at gear change. And keep in mind I'm running 8psi.

So I swapped for the full atmo unit and the sound is great. Not the full fart noise of a heavily boosted turbo but more a sudden release of air at gear change. That's my choice and I'm very happy with it.

So to recap:
The plumb back model is a direct drop in.
The dual unit requires the 'plumb back' spring.
The full vent unit comes with a block off cap for the unused plumb back hole.

I've contacted the US distributor and will attempt to organise GB. You can get these retail for about $USD250 so assuming a price of $230 or less, who is in?

Here's some pics:

Bypass

Dual

BOV (my choice)
