I'm trying to inspect my front brake pads and for the life of me I can't get off the caliper pin bolt. Is there some kind of trick to get it off, or just brute force? I scared of rounding it off...it feels like the pads are going, and I'm scheduled for track time next sunday. Any suggestions for track pads, as my stock pads are probably pretty low?

thanx!

The caliper bolts are not torqued that hard but I think the heat locks them pretty well. Just use high quality wrenches (that have little chance of rounding) and apply some force.. in the right direction .

In order to remove the caliper bolt, you need to hold the caliper pin. Fortunately there are wrench flats on the pin. So, you need two wrenches (of good quality, like cdelena suggests) and a good amount of force. I use a combination wrench on the pin and a socket on the bolt. The bolt unscrews counter-clockwise.

I've been pleased with Porterield R4S pads. I went through a complete set of OEM pads on the Sebring short course (notoriously hard on brakes). The Porterfields showed little wear after the next track outing, but that was in cooler weather on the long course, so the wear comparison is unclear. They do give good feel and less fade.

Don't forget to put in new brake fluid and bleed the brakes before your track day. Have fun!

I purchased mine from Ben at Bulletproof automotive. He was very responsive and had excellent pricing. Contact him at: Ben@BulletproofAutomotive.com

A Line wrench works really well if you are concerned about rounding the bolt head off.The use of a 6 point socket is recommened as the 12 points tend to round off off faster.
