Default Brake pad replacement

Hey guys,

I am looking to replace all 4 brake pads. I have no access to any tools or garage , so I am relying on a dealer to do this. My question is this: Is it cheaper if I buy the pads myself and just have them install them? The dealer quoted me $288 for all 4 pads including labor. Is this a fair amount and if not are there any other repuatble places to have this done? Thanks for the help!!

Brake pads are $76 +shipping/tax

I suggest you post up in your local forum and see if a member is willing to help you out. Brake pads are very easy to change out. Good luck

Shops around my area charge about $65/hr for labor. If all you're asking them to do is swap out pads, then their price is very high at close to $100/hr. MAYBE they will resurface all 4 rotors...but not every single dealership has the equipment required to do such work. If they do resurface, then that's where the extra money will go.

Resurfacing isn't always necessary.

I don't think they can resurface the rotors...they are drilled and slotted

"drilled and slotted" won't stop a brake lathe. It won't break off the bits, it won't make it do strange things. It'll cut just like a normal rotor.

I posted on my local forum, but no one is answering me. I found the DIY instructions by CThree. If I just suck it up and buy all the tools, is this something I can just bang out myself or you think I should leave it to someone who is not car retarded?

If I was you I'd just ask a friend.....brake pads are fairly easy to switch out....someone you know has to have done it before....
