Default Brake Pad Replacement Question

good morning guys

im a little confused on something and wanted to check with you guys on a brake pad replacement issue. im currently replacing the front brake pads and easily took out the old pads. however, when i began to get the new pads ready, i noticed something strange. i have the two inner pads in on both rotors , but noticed the two outer ones look different from one another and have why or if that even matters. it appears as if one of the outer pads has raised dimples while the other does not.

here's a pic of them for reference.

Raised Dimple on pad (see lower corners)

Without Dimple on pad

my question is, is this an issue or can they just go in and be fine?

also, are those metal backings behind them shims? i read the tutorial and it mentions to reuse the OEM shims, but it looks like they already come with them on the pad. FYI, these are Satisfied Gransport 6 pads i purchased from tirerack just a few days ago.

Thanks for the help!

The dimples may be for a spring, are the old pads for the front?

lol, i think i used the wrong word here. i was referring to the bottom raised dots on the top pads that the bottom ones don't have. both the pads pictured are brand new (one has grease on it already, but they're both new). my apologies for any confusion.

The dimples wont be a problem if they are not touching the contact point of the caliper.

thats just it, when i slide the caliper over them, the raised dots rest under the caliper.

the OEM pads i pulled did not have those raised dots on either of the outboard pads.

So 4 new pads, 2 inner & 2 outer, but one of these new pads has the raised dot?

yep. i found it strange. aside from the raised dots they fit dead on. both pads have the same p/n so its definitely strange. i ended up running it by a buddy and decided just to grind down the raised dots so its flush like the other one.

i finished putting everything back together and everything works 100%.

^I would've done the same. Give us a review on the pads after putting some miles on it.

now that ive put about 400 miles on the pads ill be happy to do that, lol.

the pads are great! the first 50 miles i was dealing with some initial brade fade, but attributed this to the pads bedding into the rotor. after breaking them in, i still notice the slightest brake fade when cold, but once warmed up they are excellent. dusting as predicted is worse, but its not nearly as bad as i was expecting as they dust just a smiget more then the OEM pads. all and all for street driving they do an excellent job.
