break in period?

Default break in period?

I just bought an s2k. its got barely anything on the clock and I got careless last night and pushed it to redline twice and to 130+ 2-3 times (with under 300 miles). for the first day or 2 I didnt do anything dumb and wouldnt even take it above 4500, but then last night I got REALLY careless. its obviously covered under warranty but Im still kind of curious how long Im supposed to wait to be a jackass, etc. thanks for anyones help, etc.

600 miles is the number in the manual - lot's of people here have done what you did without any noticeable problems though.

By the way, how do you carelessly go to 130?

The manual says 600 miles below 5,500 rpm.

My personal break-in method is quite different, but I've had success with it. Your car will be perfectly fine doing what you did...

wow, that is a very productive post, next time dont respond. I was not given an owners manual (I already spoke with them and I'm supposed to pick it up on Monday when I take it in to get the rear bumper repainted (theres a minor paint chip). Please don't assume things and respond with worthless posts, its a waste of everyones time.

It's not worthless...For future reference: when you do get your owner's manual most of the (newbe's) question could be found in there..That way you don't clog up our bandwidth on this site.

Watch out with that bumper repaint - it might be hard to match the yellow. If the chip is where the bumper and body meet just below the tail light (lots of 05's have that problem) you might just have them remove it, touch it up, and try to reattach. I'd be cautious repainting a large part with that color.

With the delivery of a brand new vehicle, did you not think it was strange that there was no owner's manual?
Also, since there was no owner's manual, would you not drive it like a granny till you did get one?
As for not posting, sorry, but anyone who posts up here with such a fundamental question that the manual would answer when he didn't get one that he should have gotten and also goes out and beats up on the car with next to no miles on the clock, deserves to be responded to.
Maybe it'll stop some other goofball from doing the same thing to his car.
Topcat was merely giving you some useful advice. You came here looking for advice, didn't you?

BTW, your owner's manual is most likely in the "secret" compartment.
