My drivers side axle broke(snapped) right where the axle nut stops at the hub. I had the hub bearing replaced 3 months ago at Honda when we were on vacation. Yesterday the noise came back and it sounded just like it did with the bad bearing, they(Honda) took off the wheel and when they tried to take the hub/axle nut off it just fell off. Has this happened before? I have not read any post where this has happened and I wonder if they put too much tq. on the nut when I got it fixed.

They didn't tighten the axle nut hard enough. It needs to be tightened to 220+ LB.

 

So if they don't Tq. the nut it snaps the axle in half? Has anyone seen this or can point me to a post so I can use it when Honda tries to bill me. I have never seen a axle break like this.

Typically the only way for it to snap like that is due to over tightening.

Some of today's air guns go upwards of 1000 ft-lbs. about 350 is all it needs.

I just have never had a axle break at this location and my old dragster broke three axles(always at the splinds).
