Default Broken Knock Sensor Plug

Hi there,

Whilst replacing my alternator on my S2000 engine I've managed to snap the wire going to my knock sensor :-(

I've contacted Honda, and they ever so kindly, told me that they don't do replacement connectors, terminals or pigtails and infact I have to buy a brand new wiring loom for my engine at a cost of £1000+. Is this correct?

I can't understand how a car manufacturer can operate like this. What happens if it's a warranty claim? It will cost Honda a fortune every time they have to replace a broken plug on the engine harness.

They are probably correct but is it not possible to repair the wire?
You should be able to solder it back on there.

They are likely correct that that connector is not available separate.

There are other options to fix...fix what you have, buy a connector from a member with a spare harness.

Are you sure the wire itself broke? it is usually the brittle top part of the knock sensor that breaks off, leaving the connector intact.

The wire snapped right at the end of the terminal, inside the connector. So I've got no pigtail to connect anything to.

The only way I can think of doing it is to solder a pigtail straight to the sensor, silicone inside and use a spade terminal or bullet connector on the wiring harness. I think of this as a bit of a bodge.

Chase Bays sells a K20 knock sensor plug, I think they are the same as the F20, but I know there are two different types. I've sent them an email a few days ago but I'm yet to hear anything.

Try to get the pin out of the connector then you might be able to solder the wire back on.
Or the right sized female spade connector might fit directly to the sensor pin, be careful though they are very brittle.

Well, after quite a bit of digging it turns out that I require a Sumitomo HX series connector. Part number: F(6189-0591).

Now I've just got to find someone/somewhere to sell me one :-/

That's the Knock Sensor itself, I require the plug on the harness side.

Yeah, that's my other option.

It's hard finding a pick-n-pull over here though as most breakers serve over the counter.

Thanks for all the inputs people :-)
