Default Building a diff

My goal is to make a stronger diff in my car. First of, would I be better off buying an '04 diff housing from Honda, or going with a Comptech one? Anyone have any idea of price of just the housing? Besides the housing, shims, lsd, and gears, what else do I need? Are the 4.56's much stringer than the stock gears?

Lots of posts on this ...

YES - the '04 diff is a lot stronger than earlier models.
YES - the 4.56 gears from Rick's (Richmond) are much stronger.

Depending on your experience level, you should consider having someone who really knows what they're doing put it all together. The folks at Ganley Honda in the Cleveland area have put several of these together ... and at a good price. That's where I got mine.

Call Jeff @ (216) 299-3182 and he'll give you the straight talk on the diff.

For note: be prepared for a noisy setup though. It subsides after about 10,000-15,000 miles, but it's real noisy to start out.

Is it better than getting a Comptech unit? Also when switching to the 4.56's how much does speed in each gear change? I think 2nd gets to 62 stock, what does it do with your set up? Thanks

bump i wanna know too! I'm having my richmond 4.56 gears put on my sc/w ac s2k. I wanna also know if it's worth getting the comptech reinforced diff or would it be okay to run my stock diff with these gears.

Thanks for the replies! I just ordered my driveshaft shop axles and comptech flywheel/act clutch setup and now I wanna bulletproof my rear before I add any more power.
