Default Buzz is killing me

I am new to the S2ki site.
Loving the S2000, have owned it for a year now. (bought it used, its an '01)

I have developed an annoying rattle/buzz under dash.
I traced it to the center defrost vent.

Can anyone offer some advice as to how to remove dash cover to get to that area?
Is that best left to the dealership?

Thanks for any assistance,

Randy

Well, this buzzing is not related to RPM so much as its just road rattle that makes it come to life. Sitting and reving engine will not usually produce the noise. I have no performance issues, just noisy dash when car is in motion on most roads(any speed).

Do you suppose anyone's ever tried to remove the dashboard paneling up there near the windshield? I hate to tear it apart(risking damage) and then find I can't put it back together properly(risking having to take it in the shop for reinstallation).

Type "clutch buzz" in search and see if yours is similar to what they have.

If not, good luck solving the problem

clutch buzz is dependent on RPM, so if he's hearing this when not decellerating, then its probably something loose.

IIRC the radio cover (the door) is "just" pressed into place and also easy to remove.
Be gentle though.
Then remove the radio but do not unplug otherwise you need to get a code to make it work again (I think).
Maybe the rattling starts there?

Thanks for all the input.
I finally got my friend to push around on the dash while I had the noise going on. Pressing with medium pressure right on the crack between the lower Airbag cover and the dash would make the noise dissappear. We repeated this many times and that pressure would end the rattle.

So, I may try to sneak in from the radio space as suggested.
If its too far up, I'll take it to the shop.

I read another forum about air bag rattles, I guess I'll take another look at that string too.

thanks everyone,
Randy

I had a buzz develop in the same place. It was driving me nuts mine was weird if I pressed around the gauge cluster it would disapear. I was going to take apart the dash but its really more of a PITA then its worth. So actually i ended up hitting the spot where the noise was and it went away about 2 months ago ha. I suppose I wouldnt recommend this sorta problem solving but hey it worked for me. I wouldnt take apart the dash to get to it though. You will hear a lot more things rattle like GPS2K said once winter rolls around.

I have the exact same rattle, I'll test out the airbag theory.
