Default A/C Help

Recently i've noticed a change in my air conditioning. When i have it set to cold and on at an notch (high or low) and the a/c button on, i get an influx of cold. For maybe a minute it will be refreshingly cold, and then the next minute it feels like its just blowing cool air. Could the freon need recharging? Is there a short with the a/c button somewhere?

You can diagnose this by feel. If you look at you engine bay, on the passenger side between the battery and heat sheild you will see a metal hose with a plastic cap on top of a valve. The top of the cap will have a letter "L" on it. This is your low side A/C line. With your engine running A/C system on feel that line with your hand. How cold is it? If it is ice cold you can then look more towards the evaporator/ heater core box to solve the problem. Try that for starters and good luck.

Heres a pic for reference. You can see the cap next to my positive terminal.

Hmmm... Well if it is cold to the touch then it is safe to say that the A/C side of the house is ok.. By that i mean Compressor, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve and reciever dryer. I personally have no experience with the Evaporator/ heater core assembly but the blend door that sperates the two items may be binding up or the motor is not allowing them to close and position properly. In that case air is allowed to pass through both heater core and evaporator. I have dealt with that situation before but not specific to the S2000.

AC work really needs to be performed by a liscensed tech, with recovery/rechanging equipment.

Trying to repair the AC system yourself can cause more damage than the system may have now, and cost you even more $$$$$.

VERY true! Sorry I didnt mention that earlier as well. Like I said while not being specific to the S2000 that some work/ diagnosis can be done without breaking apart the system. I have worked with techs who go on recovering, evacuating and recharging a entire A/C system only to find that the problem was a binding linkage or faulty blend door motor. Whatever the case be careful around R-134a or better yet dont mess with it unless you have a Recovery and Recycling certification through ASE.

That's water vapor, and only seen in a humid climate. It's the same effect as when you open the freezer door. The water vapor in the air condenses and you get a "cloud"

If the Evaporator was leaking R134A, you wouldn't have any AC cooling, as it takes a very short amount of time for enough R134A to escape that stops the system from working.

Have you checked or replaced the cabin air filter in a while?
