Default CAI install... HELP PLZ!!

I bought this CAI off of ebay, and i just received it in the mail today.... i downloaded AEM cai directions (because this intake is identical to the AEM but this one was only $50!) and the install was going smooth... but the pictures from this thread https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...threadid=113124 are very hard to see, and i got stuck.... im having trouble with the Figure 4 picture... im not sure what to remove near the intake manifold (there are several tubes connected by a metal bracket)... can someone PLEASE post some close-up pictures of their AEM CAI from the intake manifold/valve cover area?? thank you!

Basically aftermarket intake manufacturers make their instructions so that you end up removing the metal loom that organizes and connects some of the hoses. You'll see that in Fig. 3 on that page you linked. The loom is just a pass-through that realigns the hose somewhere else and provides some sort of mounting to clip the tubes down.

You'll notice a total of 4 different passages in the metal tube loom.

- 1 coolant line from engine to throttle body
- 2 smaller vacuum lines running to the intake box and below it
- 1 PCV or "breather hose" going from the valve cover to the intake arm

These are the 4 you will remove and replace individually with longer hoses.

All you'll really be doing with this "install" is looking at where the hoses used to be and following those lines.

Example:

PCV/breather hose
-----------------------

Factory setup: 1 hose from Valve cover -> metal tube loom. 1 hose from metal tube loom -> intake arm.

What you will "install": remove both hoses and metal loom. replace with one long hose from valve cover intake arm.

The same goes for the rest of the tubes. Just be careful not to mix up the two fuel vacuum lines as those are easily interchanged.

ok, so the CAI kit came with 2 rubber hoses... will i need to buy additional hoses to replace the 4 that are in the metal loom?

also, will i need to cut anything near the front bumper in order for the new filter to fit? thanks

You will need:

5/16" hose for the coolant line
1/2" hose for your PCV/breather line
1/8" hose for your vacuum lines

Cut the hoses to whatever lengths suit your needs. Remember to ziptie the vacuum lines as they will likely run near the belts.

I don't know what kind of CAI you purchased, but the area below the passenger headlight behind the bumper has enough space to fit an AEM filter, which is fairly large. The only thing you will need to cut is a passage for the intake piping to go in there.

*two hours later*

bought the hoses, bought some zip ties.... back to work....

all hoses have been removed along with metal lume, everything looks like its going good... when i took the vacume line off of the solenoid, there was a hissing of air, which i figured is suppose to happen....

then i look at my intake, and look at the room in the engine bay.....

eeeehhh, i need to take my bumper off, dont i....

well, after 5 hours of work, i finished the CAI install at 1:45am last night.... then i took my S2k for a spin around the block, when i came back to my house again, i was addicted... one or two more runs wouldnt hurt.. heheh.... but WOW what a difference... i definitely notice the power gains, and the grumble sound that the engine gives now is astonishing.... i'm as happy as when i first bought my S2K... best $50 i've ever spent!
