Default CAI install question........

To remove the "air dam" where the heck are the lower four "bolts? The upper four turned out to be screws. Anyone out there have a Helm page reference? Richards (aka Mingster)install instructions note 4 bolts on the top and bottom. For the life of me I can't figure out the bottom 4!

Thanks in advance.........

I've heard, from two people who have installed theirs, that the easiest way to get to the bolts is to take the bumper off. I've gone through the bumper removal process on Lips car, it's no fun.

I've been meaning for Mingster to come over to take some pics of my cai, but have been busy.

Imo, it is easier to leave the 'lower' screws or bolts in place when installing the cai, having put the cai in my car and having watched Mingster's install . Only the top screws are removed, the shroud top is angled forward and cut in the appropriate area to allow cai fit, and the cai is placed.

The drawback of that is the shroud in cut, but if one wants it to be in place after cai install, either the original shroud or a replacement needs to be cut anyway.

Mingster was able to remove the whole shroud without taking the bumper off, but it was difficult.

If you have hands that can fit in between of the small space ... You can feel the 4 plastic bolts. It's not that hard if you can reach it, try using a torch to shine around to see it. 2 on each side and 2 spaced accordingly as well. With those removed, you can squeeze it out easily.

UTAHS2K:

YOU don't know how to do this? ROFL:

Those 4 studs are a barstard to get at!! I removed mine when I did my air horn install. If you put your hand on top of the cover plate and pull it (Your hand) towards you, maintaning contact with the cover, you see that that there is a fold in the cover which takes the 4 fixings you are having trouble with right down to the level of the grill area. If you do the job in good light you can see the four fixings just about. They are the 2 piece type which consist of an outer plastic collar with an internal plastic peg inserted inside which springs outward to retain it in place. I got mine out eventually with the aid of a fairly long flat blade screwdriver with needs to be slid under the head of the internal bolt to lift it up and then pull it out. I scratched my hands to hell in the process such is the small space you have to work in.

Once the 4 fixings are out you will have to be fairly forceful with the panel to remove it. I found I needed to twist and fold the panel to remove it just being careful of the AC pipes whilst doing so.
Hope this helps.l

Great! For those yet to install, the opening in the shroud needed is smaller than the lower intake end of the cai. Pulling the shroud forward after taking out top 4 screws and ac access plate allows one to put the intake end of cai down in front of the radiator. One can now gauge how much of the shroud to cut to allow the shroud to surround the cai in place.
