I figured while I have the calipers off to powdercoat them, I will buy the oem rebuilt kit.. is it pretty straightforward or is there a writeup? thanks

 

There isn't a writeup on it and I haven't even heard of anyone rebuilding them. Is there some other reason for wanting to rebuild them? A breaking issue? It's not really something you need to do.

 

after 100k miles and they will be off anyways, figured they could use new seals, the kit is only 18 bucks

I rebuilt my fronts. You will want access to an air compressor. It really helps for popping the piston out of the cylinder.

And actually, there is a write-up of it somewhere in the technical forum. Or at least a description of it.

Oh yeah. Be damn sure not to get your fingers in the way, that thing comes out and leaves a nice deep dent in the wood.

if they aren't leaking..and nothign on them is damaged why take them apart? takign them apart needlessly may just cause problems with them tha totherwise wouldn't be there.

you should only rebuild them if the boot is torn..or the piston seal is leaking.

lol or if you just want to do it..i suppose that would be a good enough reason to do it.

 

He wants to powder coat them. To do that they need to be disassembled, hence need to be rebuilt when done. I had my rears done before.
