it's simple what i'm saying is if u line your crank pulley indicator up with the arrow and take ur valve cover off and take a picture it'll be off, so it's not perfect and like i said i attribute that to the head being milled, that's all.

Edit: It does, in fact, appear that your cam chain is not installed properly. Notice the positioning of the links on the sprocket. Notice that on mine, one of the links cover the tooth on the sprocket that points straight up, however in yours, that tooth is uncovered. So, maybe the chain is off by a tooth on the cam chain sprocket, which causes your crank pulley to be misaligned when the top-end stuff is aligned properly. In my Helms, this is described in step 15ish of the "Cylinder Head Installation" section.
ahhh make sense thx

Hmm... I neglected to check the individual link position on my motor when I assembled the head. I took pics that show the chain sitting on the idler gear as Bigeggroll's. My timing marks linedup exaclty like mxt_77's, however. I fired the motor up tonight for the first time and it kicked off the first time I hit the button. I'd hate to open it back up just to move the chain on the idler gear by half of a link, but I'll do it if you folks think that I should.

Pic of my cam alignment:

Hmm... weird. Yours looks perfect (assuming the crank pulley is also aligned with the timing marks). I'm not sure why eggroll is having so much trouble with his. There must be something else that's missing.

I give up!

My crank pulley is off by the same amount as yours.

Sc Highlander....if your car runs, you're fine. The position of the colored links does not matter.

-An s2k will not run at all if the cams are one tooth off.

-Eggroll...start with the basic wheel timing, don't even look at the cams.

-with the white pointer aligned at the crank, make sure the front sprocket marks are flush with the head. (Look at the lines on the sprocket...the cams do not affect these)

-if it's a mile off, turn the engine over 360 by hand and check again.

-Once that checks out, then go for the cams.

Thank you, sir! I figured that was the case, but wanted to make sure. She fired up last night for the first time since April.

if it were one tooth off you wouldn't be able to turn it over by hand would you? or is there enough piston to valve timing there that the valve wont hit?

the ECU does not allow it. However if you run an aftermarket ecu like EMS, it will run... ask me how i know...
