No oil analyzes has been done, it's pretty expensive and very uncommon to do those kind of tests here.
You are very lucky to have the Blackstone lab thing in the US.
The last valve adjustment before I bought it was made at a dealer, when I checked them recently they were very close to spec though.
Cams were not switched up, they are marked IN and EX.
So far I only removed the exhaust cam gear but that was on very tight, had to use my big impact wrench to get that off.

I forgot, was this engine rebuilt before?

Thanks!

No rebuild as far as I know.
Do K20 carriers fit these engines by the way? Sounds highly unlikely but a friend has a set so was just wondering.
Trying to source a new set somewhat locally.

I'd imagine no...I would totally take up s2000Junky on his offer for the cam tower assembly. Your cams can very likely be hand polished to remove the surface aluminum.

Just going over your case since the VA thread, I think you will be able to bolt it on and go.

The lower caps are replaceable just like the upper ones, well if I can find some.

No problem noodels
What kind of technique would you suggest for cleaning up the cams Billman, shoelaces and some kind of abrasive paper?

Took off the cam gear from the intake cam today, this nut seemed to be much looser than the exhaust one but hard to tell since I used my impact wrench.
Unlike the exhaust cam this one took me almost an hour to completely slide off, had to use lots of heat, freeze spray and keep tapping it with a big rubber hammer.
Seems it wasn't torqued correctly? and the gear moved slightly smashing the dovel pin making it super tight when I tried to slide it out.

Alright so I got me a "new" complete set of cams, carriers and rockers and I just bolted everything in.
Cams are in the same position as the old ones just with the correct cam gears, now the marks line up against each other just like they should.
The marks on the chain gear is obviously in the same position though, which is 180 degrees out.
Here is how it looks like right now, added some red paint to clarify

This is how it should look like though, from Rob Robinettes excellent guide https://robrobinette.com/S2000ValveAdjust.htm

Chain gear also previously installed incorrectly? I'm guessing and hoping it shouldn't matter because I'm getting real tired of problems now.

i have taken apart 200,000 miles s2000 engines and the cams and cam caps were in mint condition. Maybe the cam caps were over torqued.

You are supposed to turn the engine over until the camwheel mark are level, then put the cams in.

So if cams are out of the engine, turn crank 360 (camwheel turns 180) then you will be correct.

I really appreciate your input Billman, that would mean I should have changed the crank timing vs cam timing as well?
This is how it looked like before, cam lobes on cyl1 were at 4 and 8 o'clock position here
