Default Cam covers and engine types

I notice there are two different cam covers, one has smooth finish and one has wrinkle finish. What are differences early and late type? and how many different S2000 engines are there?

the black is for the 2000-2003 US model, the smooth silver is the 2004-2008 US model.

The 2000-2003 models are the same motor, the F20C in the US. The 2004-2008 are the F22C.

Outside the US, the F20C was used throughout the S2000's production, though many countries got the F22C as time went on. I still think the 2004 model brought in the silver smooth cover universally, though.

Just to confuse matters mine is smooth red and the engine number starts with F20, I live on the Isle of Man and I should Imagen it is a U.K spec engine but I have no idea of what year car it came out of.

You are talking about the coil/spark plug cover. He is asking about the valve/cam cover.

Op: All USDM F20c and F22c came with a wrinkle finish on the valve cover. I'm not sure about EDM, but I would imagine someone has refinished your valve cover.

This applies to US spec vehicles, I don't know much about the international variations.
There are 3 different valve covers. The 00-03 has a plastic pvc valve, 04-05 has a metal pvc, and the 06-09 also has a metal pvc, but only has 1 cam position sensor (as apposed to 2 from 00-05 due to dbw). They were all wrinkle red. And the 04+ coil covers are gold, not silver.
