Cams: TODA, Spoon, Mugen?
I'm in the market for a cams. I know TODA got one but I don't know of Spoon and Mugen got one too. What cams do you suggest? Why? For those guys who have cams, what are your feedback? Please include the brand of your cams.
Not a large sampling of cams are out for Spoon and Toda (only two vendors thus far).
According to info on this board Spoon are for midrange power and Toda for high-end power.
I'm still waiting for dyno charts! good ones!!!!

ham, no offense since I know you have the Toda Cams, but have you seen Toda's own dyno plots? According to Toda they make pretty much nothing until 8000rpms. Check out the Torque plots, almost zip the entire way.
Mugen has no cams available as far as I know.

No offense to you turbo, but that dyno plot from Toda is crap and you should know that. Look at that stock S2000 graph. Ever seen a real S2000 with a power curve like that? NO.
I HAVE the toda cams and I know what power they make. The difference from 7500 up is minimal but from 4000-6000 we saw about 15 hp gain. So you can believe what you want, but I have the cams and I know.
I'll let you know the difference on a stock ECU very soon. I'm also going to tune it using a VAFC. My base was 193 with no mods. My best with the VAFC, DC header, HKS exhaust was 212. My best with same setup only add the AEM EMS was 224. My best adding the Toda cams was 228. best torque was 154 at around 6k it looks like.
My new setup will be Toda Cams, Spoon Exhaust, Spoon Header, RM intake, VAFC, stock ecu. I'll be conducting those pulls in July.. I'll keep you posted.
The Toda cams are worth it though.

Chris, can you show me your dyno with the toda cams? How do you know that what you got wasn't a result of your other mods? Maybe on a stock S2000 the dyno would be different? Just asking.
Turbo,
I dont know that my other mods affected my dyno results with the Toda cams. But I've logged over 40 pulls on the same dyno using many combos of mods. I've seen the results between the same mods with the addition of the Toda cams and it's nice. I just know that they make the biggest difference on MY car in the midrange. I was expecting more topend gains, but the midrange gains are most welcome.
Again, look at that "dyno" graph that Toda has produced. I've never seen a S2000 with a powerband like that, not even on a turbo or sc. It's too linear with no jump in vtec. My graphs are very smooth but you can still see the transition into vtec.
Toda makes good stuff. They stand behind their product. They wouldnt produce a cam that didnt make power, believe me. It's not as aggressive as a BSpec cam, but it has some serious ramp-up on the lobes. In the stock configuration, I dont think you'd see any more power with adding more lift than the Toda because the stock head's flow starts to really flatten out above 550cfm. I think Toda did a nice job of making a good cam. Hell, you dont even know it's there. The idle is just as smooth as before.
I would definately be interested in the Spoon Cams when they come out. I am a Spoon person myself, but I also enjoy pioneering new mods, i.e. EMS. Wait for the Spoon cams or get Toda now. Your choice. I would get Toda now because I know when the Spoon comes out I'll get a set of those too.
