Default Cant fix Vtec!

Since i bought this car vtec has never worked, i have literally tried everything. I subscribed today to this forum hoping someone else can help out.

I had an f20c with no vtec, changed entire vtec valve didnt help. Got pissed and swapped an f22c into my car and vtec still not working! I also replaced the engine harness, car battery, ecu and followed the service manual troubleshooting checking for continuity and voltage and everything is good. I have no check engine lights, oil level is good, temp is at 3 squares, when i test vtec. Nothing works.

I do notice 1 abnormality when i unplug vtec solenoid, my check engine light does not come one. Do u guys get a cel in your cars when u unplug the vtec solenoid?

Well, it does sound like a CPU/ECU issue. How do you know the VTEC is not engaging? Lack of high RPMs?

I assume that the engine has healthy compression specs.

Correct, the lack of high rpm and my experience with other vtec tells me its not working. The f22 engine had 80k miles so hoping compression is good, sounds good too. Also do u get a cel when u remove the vtec solenoid connector in your car?

I did transfer the old alternator, but thats it. Dont think that would prevent vtec. It charges the batteries perfectly.

vtec will only engage if it sees a throttle position that is above some percentage. is it possible that your TPS is off whack or out of range? You can test this with a simple ODB2 scanner and monitor throttle position (%), if you jam the pedal down and it doesn't go to 100% then maybe that could be your problem?

When i installed the throttle cable i made sure the butterfly opened all the way by having someone else step down on the gas all the way. Also the tps is usually non-adjustable and i had no vtec even with the f20c. So i think its a variable outside engine.

Have you taken it to a shop to get it checked out?

none of this ensures the tps is actually functioning correctly though. It's worth picking up a scanner to confirm. Also, it usually won't go to exactly 100%. 98% or so is fine.

Is it the same throttle body used on both engines?
