Can't pass broomstick test sitting on floor!
So I wanted to see what it would take to be able to pass a broomstick test for trackdays, etc. Could I lower stock seat enough, would I need aftermarket seat, if so which ones which brackets would be enough. No sense proceeding with one of these options and still not meet the goal.
So I figured I would work from bottom up. Remove seat, sit on carpet, measure clearance to broomstick, then I could calculate max seat height I could get away with.
So...I discovered I can't pass, even with no helmet on, sitting directly on the carpet! I can just fit the palm of my hand between head and stick. That isn't the required two inches, and thats without a helmet.
What I don't understand is who could pass broomstick? When sitting on the floor I could comfortably drive vision wise. My eye height was around mid windshield, but I couldn't imagine being much lower and still able to drive.
Those of you who pass helmeted broomstick, how do you see to drive?

I have zero issues seeing to drive, I am 5'8" and I have a Sparco Circuit that is as low as you can get it (seat bottom touches the PCI bracket). My eye level is approximately an inch and a half above the edge of the dash above the cluster.
I much prefer to be 'in' the car than 'on' the car, if that makes any sense. I don't need to see the edges of the car to know where they are.

My thoughts...do a track day in stock form. Assuming you're willing to listen to an instructor and not trying to win an HPDE trophy, you're not putting yourself at serious risk until you start to "drive". For some it's the 5th day others it's the 20th. Just make sure you and the car are healthy (Fluids, etc..).
At the novice levels I'd consider it no more risky than driving to work every day.
Speaking of sitting on the floor, I totally sat on the floor today to pull the car onto a trailer and the around a parking lot and into the shop before the snow, so I can paint next week.
It feels really weird, Im gonna say if your 5'6 sitting on the floor is way to low.
