Default Can't shift into 5th gear update

Last Tuesday I took my 2000 S2000 into the dealer to have them do the Clutch TSB and look at 5th gear - since it was hard to shift in and out of. Well, on the way there I didn't have 5th AT ALL! They've been waiting on parts ever since (for the clutch TSB). They tried TSB 02-046, 5th Gear is difficult to select, but that didn't help at all. Today, Scott, the mechanic (he's the only guy they have work on S2000's) called me to say that he wanted me to come in and take a look at the tranny since he's got it torn down. I stopped in and sure enough, the 5th gear syncro is locked in place and won't move. All the others look great. Some of the teeth on the rings around the 5th gear syncro were very obviously worn down as well. This is the first he's seen of this except for one guy who had a similar problem, which was more due to tracking the car than just being a daily driver.

At any rate, I am continually impressed with the work and customer service that they provide. Scott mentioned they're expecting the parts tomorrow and if he can't get it done that he'll come in on Saturday and finish it up for me. He knows how much I love the car and it's pretty clear he really loves them too. I've got him putting Syncromesh in the tranny and doing Mobil 1 in the diff as well as long as it's there.

I'm very happy that David Hobbs Honda is as close as it is - especially given all the horror stories I hear all over the board about rotten dealers and service. These guys are great and if you're in SE WI - give them a shot!

Track use is very hard on a car. Its hard on all the driveline components. Figure every track mile is worth several hundred street miles in terms of wear and tear. Watch any race and you can see what tracks do to cars and reliability. Tear down a few transmission on tracked cars and you will change your mind. George
