Car dies around corners etc...
Ok so i bought a black 2000 s2000 with 35k miles on it yesterday and everything was fine on the trip home...Well after driving it today, something is wrong with it. It was fine the first part of the day I was running errands and what not and towards the end of all my trips the car just dies on certain ocassions...First off, everytime i rev it up and like slow do at lights it seems to bog down and catch back up on RPM's then the real problem is when im just driving, the car just shuts off...I was turning the corner to day and the car just shut itself off after I made the turn. Then once again shut off after i got my sonic and went to pull out of the place...And after that the car didnt start for at least 40 minutes. I was stranded there forever. So my questions are...1. What cause my car to bog down and catch up on RPM's like that??? And why is my car just shutting itself off??? It doesnt stall it just shuts off!!!! And why do you think that it didnt start for almost an hour then just started itself again?? Please help I have this car less then 24 hours and Im already having problems...Sorry if this is long, but im new and dont know what is causing this...All help is greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!!!!

Welcome Justin and congrats on the new car.
Let's get a idea of the car first, does it have ANY aftermarket parts on it?
Did you buy private or dealer?
1. What caused my car to bog down and catch up?
Answer: The ECU is a learning device. If there has been changed in temperature/humidity etc then it will adjust itself accordingly.
Should it shut off? No, it will dip down then readjust back up to 850-900 rpm. I only had my ECU shut off on me once.
A IAC could use a cleaning (search for IAC cleaning) and causing it to idle poorly. Depending on your mods, the Vacuum lines could have a tear/rip/hole causing it to idle rough
Call the dealer immediately and inform them of the issues you are having. Just a FYI call for now.

hey djblyss you can also check your sparkplugs too, pretty simple to do
http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/engine/plugs.html
heres a chart of spark plugs damage, it may be an issue.
we have a few s2k members in new orleans that may give u a helping hand
other small stuff you can do is check air filterer, map whack, reset the ecu. when you reset the ecu, your car should run on the base map and relearn the map from there. if all fails call the dealership

When the car died...did the engine just shut off or did you lose all power...dash lights, everything? When you tried to restart it after it shut off, what did the car do...did the engine just keep turning over but not start...did it just click and the engine not turn...did it do nothing at all because there was no power?

everyone above has stated good possibilities: things that I would check.
My personal experience is more info is necessary such as when it shuts off, does everything turn off: lights, dashboard, etc? My car would shut off making tight cornering or at high speed due to the fuel pump, but all electronics was fine: running when I had less than 1/2 tank, switched out the soak pad connected to the fuel pump, and never an issue again.
Good luck.
